About this tour
From the plant to the cup, on a working cacao and coffee plantation in Bijagua.
This 1 to 1.5-hour experience takes you through a cacao and coffee plantation in Bijagua, in the Tenorio Rainforest.
You follow coffee from the seedling through growth, production and harvest, then learn how it is processed and fermented and what makes the different types of coffee.
Then it is cacao’s turn: how it is planted and grafted, the varieties grown, and how the beans are processed. Along the way you hear the history of cacao among the Maleku, the Indigenous people of this region, who processed cacao long before it became chocolate as we know it.
The experience ends with a tasting.
The Chocolate & Coffee Experience is an add-on to our Sloth Encounter tour in the Tenorio Rainforest.
