The Tenorio River, rapid by rapid
Twelve kilometers of class III and IV whitewater on the Tenorio River, near Bijagua, in the north of Guanacaste.
The river runs clear and fast through a canyon of volcanic rock, with more than 22 rapids along the way. Before you get in the water, the river guides give you a full safety briefing and fit your helmet, life jacket and paddle. Then you spend about two hours on the river, paddling as a team through drops, turns and long stretches of continuous whitewater.
The run ends at Cascabel Falls, a drop of about 12 feet (3.5 m) that the raft goes over with the whole crew on board. On the calmer stretches, keep an eye on the banks for birds, monkeys and iguanas.
After the river you get fruit, snacks and drinks, and a typical Costa Rican lunch at the rafting base, included in the price. We leave your hotel at 7:00 AM with your own bilingual guide and private transport.
